Description

Agilent 7890A GC with ECD & 7683 Autosampler Overview

Agilent 7890A GC with ECD & 7683 Autosampler is a GC system configured with a Split/Splitless (SSL) inlet, G2397A Micro-Electron Capture Detector (ECD), and 7683 Series Autosampler for automated detection of halogenated and other electron-capturing compounds.
The ECD uses a sealed 15 mCi Nickel-63 source to generate a steady electron stream. As electron-capturing compounds pass through the detector cell, they absorb electrons in proportion to their concentration, producing a signal used to detect and quantify organochlorine pesticides, PCBs, and similar halogenated analytes at trace levels.

The 7683 Autosampler holds up to 100 vials with a tray or 8 vials on a high-density turret, with injection volumes from 0.1 to 50 µL and reproducibility under 0.5% RSD for 1 µL injections. Pre- and post-injection syringe rinsing with two wash solvents reduces sample carryover, and injector drive uses electronic motor actuation with position feedback, requiring no periodic mechanical adjustment.

The SSL inlet uses a Turn-Top design for tool-free liner changes in under 30 seconds. 5th-generation Electronic Pneumatics Control (EPC) holds pressure setpoints within 0.001 psi.

This Agilent 7890A GC with ECD & 7683 Autosampler is offered fully refurbished and tested, in working condition, by Alliant Scientific.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

How many vials does the 7683 Autosampler hold?

Up to 100 vials with the tray, or 8 vials on the high-density turret without a tray.

What is the injection reproducibility on the 7683?

Under 0.5% RSD for 1 µL injections.

How does the 7683 reduce sample carryover?

Pre- and post-injection syringe rinsing using two separate wash solvents reduces carryover between samples.

What kind of samples can complicate GC-ECD pesticide/PCB analysis?

Environmental sample extracts with complex matrices (soil, tissue, waste) often contain co-extracted interferences that can complicate quantitation — a common reason labs pair ECD screening with GC/MS confirmation on flagged samples.

What does this system detect?

The G2397A Electron Capture Detector (ECD) detects halogenated compounds like organochlorine pesticides and PCBs. See our standalone 7890A GC with ECD listing for more detail on EPA method compatibility and detection limits.
