Description
Agilent 6890N GC/MS with 5975C MSD, 7683 Autosampler & G1888 Headspace Sampler Overview
The Agilent 6890N GC paired with the Agilent 5975C MSD is a proven, widely deployed GC/MS platform, extended here with a G1888 Network Headspace Sampler for fully automated analysis of volatile compounds directly from vial headspace.
The 5975C MSD features a Triple-Axis Detector (TAD), which places the High Energy Dynode (HED) electron multiplier off-axis from the quadrupole to maximize ion collection and reduce background noise — giving this system a meaningful sensitivity edge over earlier 5973-series detectors. This unit uses the diffusion pump vacuum system (G3170A), a stable, reliable configuration well suited to routine, high-throughput analytical workflows.
The G1888 Headspace Sampler automates vial pressurization, equilibration, and sample transfer, using a 70-vial tray and 12 heated oven positions to allow unattended overnight operation — eliminating manual extraction steps and reducing contamination risk. Multiple Headspace Extraction (MHE) and Multiple Headspace Concentration (MHC) modes support method development and trace-level quantitation work.
The 7683 Series Autosampler remains fully available on this system for standard liquid injection, so this configuration moves fluidly between automated headspace analysis and direct liquid injection without hardware changes — well suited to environmental, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and forensic laboratories running mixed sample types.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
What does the G1888 Headspace Sampler add to this system?
It automates volatile compound analysis directly from vial headspace — no manual sample extraction needed. Its 70-vial tray and 12 heated oven positions allow unattended, overnight sample runs.
What is the difference between the 5975C MSD and the 5973N MSD?
The 5975C features a Triple-Axis Detector (TAD), which increases ion collection and reduces background noise — giving it a sensitivity advantage over the earlier 5973N MSD used in some of our other 6890N GC/MS configurations.
Can this system still run standard liquid injections, or only headspace samples?
Both — the 7683 Series Autosampler remains available for direct liquid injection, so this system supports both headspace and standard liquid sampling workflows.
What vacuum system does this MSD use?
A 65 L/s diffusion pump (G3170A configuration), a stable, reliable option for routine analytical workflows.
Does this unit include a warranty?
Yes — this unit ships with a 90-day warranty.
