The Cary 8454 uses a 1024-element diode array detector (DAD) to capture the full UV-Vis spectrum simultaneously, rather than scanning wavelength by wavelength — enabling full-spectrum acquisition in as little as 0.1 seconds. Because the design has no moving parts, it delivers stable, reproducible results with minimal maintenance over time.
A dual lamp setup — a deuterium lamp for the UV range and a tungsten lamp for the visible and short-wave near-infrared range — covers the full 190 to 1100 nm wavelength range. This configuration is equipped with 8-cell multicell sampling, allowing multiple samples to be measured in sequence without manual cell swapping — a meaningful throughput advantage for labs running batches of samples rather than one at a time.
