Alltech 2000 Evaporative Light Scattering Detector (ELSD) is a universal chromatographic detector designed for analytes that do not possess UV absorbance or fluorescence characteristics. Unlike UV detectors, the Alltech 2000 ELSD responds to non-volatile compounds based on particle formation following mobile phase evaporation, making it suitable for a broad range of HPLC applications.

The detector operates by nebulizing the column effluent, evaporating the mobile phase, and measuring light scattered by the remaining analyte particles. This detection principle allows analysis of compounds that are difficult or impossible to detect using conventional UV detectors, including sugars, lipids, surfactants, polymers, phospholipids, and many pharmaceutical excipients.

The Alltech 2000 ELSD is commonly used in pharmaceutical research, food and beverage testing, natural products analysis, polymer characterization, carbohydrate analysis, and quality control laboratories.
